Educationpleidingen

  • 1981 – Graduation main course church organ at the Utrecht Conservatorium
  • 1982 – Master of Science degree Dutch Law the Catholic University Nijmegen
  • 1988 – Master exam Music Science at Utrecht University; graduation topic: Maarschalkerweerd & Zoon – in kerkorgels

Functions

  • 1982-1985 – Teacher church organ, music history and music theory at Regional Music School Woerden.
  • 1989-1990 – Project member European Subsidies at the Study and Faculty Library for visual of otherwise handicapped people in Amsterdam. In this function a moderate European subsidy is awarded, and Paul Houdijk takes the initiative to the project called 'Spoken Sheet Music', as welcome addition to the already existing braille music equipment.
  • 1993-2006 – Added Research at the Institute for Art History and Music Science, part of the Literature Faculty of the Utrecht University. Area of specialization is de 19th-century organ art in general and especially the Utrecht organ builders Maarschalkerweerd & Zoon. At the moment a publication on this topic is being prepared.
  • 1978-today - Organist at the R.C. cathedral church of St. Catharina in Utrecht, where he plays an instrument built by the organ company Maarschalkerweerd & Zoon. The practice of this function and the theory of the research job at the university this way are combined in a sensible matter.
  • Performs organ concerts on a regular basis at several locations, centered on Romanticism of the nineteenth century, what again relates to the two above mentioned functions.

Board Functions

  • 1985-1990 – Chairman of the departmental board Utrecht of the Nederlandse Associatie van Blinden en Slechtzienden ( the Dutch Society of Blind and Pur BLind = NVBS).
  • 1987-1990 - Deputy-chairman of the Harmonium Vereniging Nederland (Reed Organ Association Netherlands = HVN).
  • 1987-1990 – Member of the board of the Katholieke Klokken en Orgel Raad (Catholic Bells and Organ Committee = KKOR), the church committee that counsels the purchase or restoration of church organs and - bells.
  • 1990-heden – National chariman of the Katholieke Dirigenten en Organisten Vereniging (Catholic Conductor and Organist Association = KDOV). This  profession association is focused on the stimulation of (the quality of) the church music, as well as on juridical matters and on taking care of the interests of its members.
  • 1991-today – member of the episcopal court for juridical matters (the chamber for matters concerning church musicians, delegated from the KDOV).
